Day Two of my garden blog. I’ve decided to discuss my on-going struggle with my pond. Above you will see where my pond’s humble existence began….yeah….right under those two green chairs. The former owner had a preform system that was entirely inadequate for me. The terrain was a horrible mix of clay and rocks that was begging for a change. I heeded its call by indulging in one of my wishes that I had as a home owner: A beautiful water feature! I definitely had enough land and this spot would be perfect for it.

After hiring a backhoe operator to dig through the compacted clay and my daughter and I jumping into it to dig it another foot deep, we were pleased to see the fruit of our labor take the shape of a 14′ x 14′ x 2.5′ gaping hole. After adding epdm rubber liner (200 lbs of it to be exact), fish, plants and rocks around the perimeter, we ended up with a pretty decent looking water garden.
