Good things come to those who work hard

pond2 Good things come to those who work hard

This is how the pond looks today. Aesthetically, it’s acceptable. However, the plan is to add more COLOR! I still need to work on filtration issues, the fish are fond of leaving ‘fertilizer’ which does wonders for the plants, but tend to upset the eco-balance. I enjoy watching the fish swim through their 2400 gallon home as well as our seasonal visitors, the frogs…the croaking I can do without, however. lol

I did learn a lesson from rocking my pond. DON’T SKIMP ON QUALITY!! The original rocks suck! Until I purchased river rock to camoflauge my MISTAKE with the rock that is mostly used in ditches…..I never understood the gravity of trying to be frugal at the expense of creating something beautiful. Luckily, it wasn’t an expensive lesson because most of the river rock came from a friend…gratis.

I’m encouraged though….I think the pond looks great considering that Carisa and I did 90% of the work. Now that Fall has arrived, we’ve put the pond to bed and we look forward to doing a cleanout in the Spring and add new colorful plants. We did add new waterlilies a couple of months ago….can’t wait to see them bloom next spring! And of course, I will always have challenges like algae blooms (especially in the Spring) like I had earlier this year before I re-rocked the pond. But I don’t care…..the results are worth it.
