I ran across this picture from this past summer and I marvel at how things have changed in my garden already. Beauty in the garden, as in life, is so fleeting.
And as with all things, we tend to miss things most when they are gone. By fall, we’ve forgotten about the beautiful harmonies of the birds who populate our trees, the croaking sounds of frogs that have somehow found their way to our ponds, the gentle sting of the sun’s rays welcoming us to another beautiful day, the flutter of butterfly wings gently nibbling on the nectar of technicolored blossoms.
But, in truth, this is the time to look ahead to all the possibilities that tomorrow can bring. As we settle our gardens into winter slumber and as we begin to weed our planting beds, let’s remember to weed out the problems that tend to plague our everyday lives. As we gather the fallen leaves that litter our yards, let’s not forget those that have fallen by the wayside and yearn a gentle touch from our often too busy hands.
It’s important that we understand that as life is renewed and restored as beauty in our yards, we can follow that same example. It is a subtle reminder that we must appreciate nature in all of its glory, because as seasons change, so must we.
