An ode to ben gay with a special mention of the joys of deep tissue massaging

My entire body aches. Every last inch of it. Carisa and I worked like battered mules this past weekend. I’m almost too tired to type this entry, it’s that bad…..ouch!

Luckily, we have something to show for our pain. I got to use my new honda mini-tiller and I LOVE it! It was so easy to use and made quick work out of digging out a new bed. Actually, I was able to rework two beds by enlarging and redesigning it. One of the beds required that two of my climbing roses by relocated to other spots. They simply would not work where they were anymore. I added one to the existing white arbor to give it a fuller look and the other I placed where wisteria once consumed a garden fence.

We expanded the bed in the front yard to include a very large pot laid on its side where impatiens and other annuals will flow out of as if the pot spilled them. I replaced the existing plants in the expansion and added others. The other bed was tripled in size and a pieris shrub, dusty miller, gaura was added. I plan to use seeds to fill in the blank spots. I want to become successful at using seeds…so practice makes perfect! We placed a tall armillary in that bed as a focal point.

We added the mosquito net to the gazebo, placed down the new outdoor rug on the wooden deck that the gazebo is attached to, flanked the outside of the gazebo with two large potted hydrangeas on either side, rounded-up the weeds surrounding said gazebo. We purchased several shade tolerant plants to place in the area because it’s rather bare at this point. I’m going to try to plant those and a couple of bags of dahlia around the pond bed one day after work.

I still have so much to do before it gets absolutely too hot to do anything:
1) finish pruning out of control shrubs
2) take the netting off of the pond
3) repot/refresh container garden
4) plant shade plants and remaining summer bulbs
5) get the new front yard fountain operational (piece of cake)
6) Find a bench cushion for the new bench that’s in front of the magnolia bush
7) Do another round of fertilizing the entire yard
8 ) Spray roses, hibiscuses and other plants with horticultural oil

WHEW!!
