I don’t know how much longer we’ll be able to get along without a steady flow of rainwater. When there is rain in the forecast, it’s a rare occasion that we actually see any of it. Oh, well, we have a 60% chance today, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
We were really busy this weekend. I’m clearing the yard of items that I no longer need or want and have posted them on my garden exchange board….no sense in trashing them if someone else can put it to good use.
At the same time, we decided to move some plants that were not thriving and relocated it to a better spot in the garden. We were lucky enough to pick up a few plants that were half off at Walmart that I’d been wanting: lilacs, rhodies, peonies……amazingly, we got everything but the peonies planted. I think I’m going to mix the peonies in with the roses that are on order.
Which leads to my new crush….ROSES!! Ok, it’s not as if I’ve never tried them….but this is the first time that I’m taking them seriously enough to actually LEARN how to care for them! Besides, I’ve always thought that roses were an important component of an English cottage garden. As I started to do research, I learned that May/June is the time of year when nurseries start to discount roses. Oh, why did I have to find that out?! When the smoke settled, I had ordered 13 bushes….but that’s ok….I can plant them in groups, so it sounds worse than it actually is. lol
My biggest accomplishment was scoring stepping stones (that resembled flagstone) from work for $25.00 a pallet! All totaled, it was about 35 pieces! It covered the entire 95 foot length of the pathway around the pond. Gotta love great deals!! lol
